This led to Apple changing how IAP is handled on devices, requiring a password to be entered every time a purchase is being made from within an app as of the iOS 4.3 update. This led to parents entering their password for one reason or another and then handing their device off to their kids who would fire up Smurfs’ Village and click away recklessly buying Smurfberries.Īpple was not very pleased with Beeline over the uproar of angry customers, and it turns out that the government wasn’t very pleased with Apple’s in-app purchasing system either, and launched an investigation into how that system works this past February. Part of the problem was the loose way that Beeline had implemented the IAP functionality, and the other part of the problem was that Apple’s own iTunes account system would keep users logged in for up to 15 minutes after entering a password and making a purchase in a game. The IAP system in Smurfs’ Village allowed you to make multiple purchases with just a few clicks, and in the weeks following the game’s release Apple had a huge number of requests for refunds by parents whose younger children had accidentally bought hundreds of dollars of Smurfberries in the game. The IAP currency didn’t just suck the joy out of the game, though, but also sucked the money out of many unhappy parents’ bank accounts. Crops would wither and die if you weren’t constantly attentive of them and purchasing the IAP Smurfberry currency was basically required to obtain some of the cooler items in the game. Unfortunately, the freemium aspect sucked a lot of the joy out of the Smurfs’ Village. We actually quite liked Smurfs’ Village in our review, noting that it did incredible fan-service to fans of The Smurfs and had gorgeous Retina Display graphics that brought everything to life. It was a Farmville-like freemium sim game that was themed after the popular 3-apple high blue folk many of us remember from our childhood. Since you are essentially taking your village back in time, you will lose any recent progress made after the creation of that recovery point, but it's the only known way to reverse the corruption.You may recall back in November when Beeline Interactive (formerly Capcom Mobile) released Smurfs’ Village into the App Store. If you need you to check another area besides the Main Village, you can also travel to your other areas when previewing your Local Saves by tapping on the Rocket, Balloon, Ship, and Portal. You only get 3 Recovery attempts every 24 hours, so we would advise that you preview each Recovery Point thoroughly before you choose to use it. So, if for example you first noticed the problem today, check the Local Save from two days ago, and if that’s good, you can use that save or go back even one day further to be extra safe. On the Saved Villages Screen, go through the saves one by one and preview them until you find a good save where everything is back to normal. To make the recovery, go to the Smurfs’ Village Settings (gear button in the bottom right corner of the screen) > Settings Tab > My Account > Local Saves > Saved Villages. Please note: If you choose to continue playing without making a recovery, or re-purchase the missing items, then the corruption will only get worse and could lead to permanent loss of your village. The quickest and safest fix for this is to immediately use the in-game recovery tool as soon as possible and restore your village to an earlier save that was made BEFORE the problem first appeared. If you should experience an issue where specific items disappear, your levels are reset, huts or mini-games from one area are moved to another, or empty floating icons appear, this means you have likely experienced corruption.
